If you are looking for something that you can eat on-the-go then Chick-fil-A is the perfect place to check out. They are one of the largest American fast food restaurant chains whose specialty is chicken sandwiches. But Chick-fil-A isn’t just home to the juiciest fast-food chicken or the sweetest lemonade on the scene. What make the chain shine are its employees, who greet customers with a genuine smile and the signature “my pleasure” tagline. Its menu includes a wide range of items like the waffle fries, chicken nuggets, salads and its very original chicken sandwich.
Recently, in 2019, under its expansion plan within Canada, Chick-fil-A opened two new restaurants, one in the Yonge and Bloor Street area and the other in York dale Shopping Centre, in Toronto, Ontario. So, here is snapshot on Chick-fil-A, its journey, its delicacies and more for foodies and our dear readers in Toronto.
A Brief History
The chain’s origin can be traced to the Dwarf Grill (now the Dwarf House), a restaurant opened by S. Truett Cathy, the chain’s former chairman and CEO, in 1946 in Hapeville, Georgia. In 1961, after 15 years in the fast food business, Cathy found a pressure-fryer that could cook the chicken sandwich in the same amount of time it took to cook a fast-food hamburger.
Following this discovery, he registered the name Chick-fil-A, Inc. The company’s trademarked slogan, “We Didn’t Invent the Chicken, Just the Chicken Sandwich,” refers to their flagship menu item, the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. The first Chick-fil-A opened in 1967, in the food court of the Greenbriar Mall, in a suburb of Atlanta. In October 2015, the company opened a three-story 5,000 square feet restaurant in Manhattan that became the largest free-standing Chick-fil-A in the country at that time.
Expansion in Canada
In July of 2018 Chick-fil-A announced that it picked Toronto as its “first international location”. The Toronto opening is noteworthy not only because it’s the first international franchise-owned location, but also because with this it plans to establish about 15 more around the Greater Toronto Area over the next five years.
The Yonge & Bloor restaurant is the first Chick-fil-A franchise in Canada. It features a familiar menu to Chick-fil-A’s U.S. offerings, but also includes a few specifically Canadian ties. It serves two premium coffee blends that are roasted in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and specifically developed for Canadian tastes. In addition, some of the menu’s baked goods, dairy, eggs and produce are sourced in Canada.
